Manual Transmission Rebuilds

Grinding gears, jumping out of gear or worn synchros — we rebuild manual transmissions in house.

← All services

A manual transmission uses gears, shafts and synchronizers ("synchros") that match speeds so each gear slides in smoothly. When synchros or bearings wear out, shifting gets noisy and hard. A rebuild replaces the worn parts inside, so you keep your transmission instead of buying another one.

Signs it's time

  • Grinding when you shift, especially into one particular gear
  • The shifter pops out of gear on its own
  • Whining or growling that changes with speed
  • Hard to get into gear
  • Gear oil leaking from the transmission

What we do

  • Find out whether it's the transmission, the clutch or the shift linkage
  • Remove the transmission and take it apart
  • Replace worn synchros, bearings, seals and gears
  • Rebuild and reinstall it, all in house
  • Fresh gear oil and a road test
Good to know

Grinding into one gear usually means that gear's synchro is worn. Fixing it before parts break keeps the rebuild cheaper. If your clutch is also worn, ask about replacing it while the transmission is out — you only pay to remove it once.
